Summer Philosophy - 5 Ways Image

Arrows Apostolate

Arrows Rugby hosts spiritual formation programming during the Fall, Spring, and Summer. It has been our custom over the past few summers to feature some sort of Philosophy programming. Over the Summer of 2021, the Arrows presented St. Thomas Aquinas' 5 Ways of proving the existence of God (source text).
The entire program content is now loaded on YouTube for on-demand viewing - we hope you might dive in to see what it's about!

Session 1: Introduction

We were introduced to the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas and to the program by Father Gregory Pine, O.P. (an actual Dominican Friar!)

Session 2: First Mover

Bryan Smyth presented the 1st Way of proving the existence of God, in which Aquinas explains what is meant by the term the 'First Mover'.

Session 3: Causation

Adam Smyth presented the 2nd Way of proving the existence of God, in which Aquinas explains 'Causation'.

Session 4: Contingency

Richard Pagel presented the 3rd Way of proving the existence of God, in which Aquinas explains 'Contingency'.

Session 5: Degree

Garrett Trautman presented the 4th Way, in which Aquinas explains the existence of God from 'Degree'.

Session 6: Final Ends

Joe Cherny originally presented the 5th Way of proving the existence of God, in which Aquinas explains Final Ends; but we were unable to record this one. So we borrowed some material from Matt Fradd to share on video.

BrewTube

We have already enjoyed our first 3 (of 5) “BrewTube” program session! With beverages stocked by Club Partner Platypus Brewery (on Washington Ave) and led by Apostolate Director Andy Maul, we have worked through thought-provoking YouTube video and engaging conversation over cold, post-training brew!
